President of the Bar

Myriam PICOT

At the head of the Bar, the President, elected by his peers, is both a statutory representative of the profession and a company manager. Under his responsibility, the Bar has to do all in its power to execute the mission in the public interest with which it is entrusted by law, and which consists of helping to further the public service of Justice.

The current President of the Bar is Maître Myriam PICOT.

The Council

The Council of the Lyon Law Society is made up of 24 lawyers elected by their peers for a three-year term of office. It is chaired by the President of the Bar and renewed by one-third each year.
The Council deals with and discusses all the questions concerning professional practice and ensures that lawyers’ duties and rights are respected.
In Lyon, it meets every two weeks and carries out the following functions:

• Regulatory function: it draws up the rules of procedure for the Lyon Law Society.

• Administrative function: it validates lawyers’ registration, their omission, their specializations, and the conditions of professional practice.

• Financial function: it determines the budget and the subscriptions to be paid by each lawyer.

• Disciplinary function: it maintains discipline within the Law Society and ensures that its members comply with the terms of their oath. It can pronounce disciplinary sanctions.
